Accessing Google Drive
Google Drive is a free service available to anyone with a Gmail account. You’ll need to sign up, fill in the necessary details, and synchronize your access to all of Google’s services before you can get started. If you’re going to download a web browser, you might as well go with Google Chrome so you can access Google Drive without any hassle.
When you first launch Google Chrome after creating an account, you’ll see a small menu in the top right corner. Navigating your Google Drive can be accessed via the Google Apps menu. Next, you’ll be transferred to your cloud storage where you can initiate an instantaneous file upload into the program.
Navigating your Google Drive
You can quickly find what you need in Google Drive because of its user-friendly interface. There are a few different parts to the Google Drive homepage, such as the toolbar, the main viewing area, and the navigation panel.
The Navigation Panel
The navigation panel is located on the left side of the screen. It contains links to your files and folders, as well as other Google Drive features, such as Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, and more. To access your files and folders, navigating your Google Drive by clicking on the “My Drive” link in the navigation panel. This will take you to a list of all the files and folders you have stored in Google Drive. You can click on any file or folder to open it, or right-click to access more options, such as sharing, moving, or deleting the file.
The toolbar is located at the top of the screen and contains several different tools and options that you can use to manage your files and folders. The first button on the toolbar is the “New” button. This button allows you to do navigating your Google Drive to create a new file or folder in Google Drive. To create a new file, click the “New” button, then select the type of file you want to create, such as a Google Document, Sheet, or Slideshow.
Next to the “New” button is the “Upload” button. This button allows you to upload files from your computer to Google Drive. To upload a file, click the “Upload” button, then select the file you want to upload.
The “Share” button allows you to share your files and folders with others. You can share your files and folders with specific people, or you can make them publicly available to anyone with a link. To share a file or folder, right-click on it, then select the “Share” option.
The Main Viewing Area
The main viewing area is where you’ll see your files and folders. By default, your files and folders will be listed in a grid view, but you can change the view to a listview by clicking the “List View” button in the toolbar as part of navigating your Google Drive.
In the main viewing area, you can sort your files and folders by name, date modified, or size by clicking the sort button in the toolbar. You can also search for specific files and folders by typing keywords into the search bar at the top of the screen.
Google Drive’s document sharing is another highlight of the service you can do by navigating your Google Drive. When you click the “Share” button, you’ll be able to add collaborators by entering the email addresses and deciding what kind of access to give them. They will receive an email with a link to the file attached. The names of the collaborators will appear on the sheet or document in the upper right corner next to their profile pictures. In this way, you can pinpoint who is making modifications.
Modifying who can view shared files and converting file types are just two examples of the advanced options available. The document’s creator can decide whether others can only read it, modify it, or leave comments.
Organizing Your Files and Folders

To do this, you can create new folders and move your files into those folders. To create a new folder, click the “New” button, then select “Folder.” Give your folder a name, then click “Create.” To move a file or folder into a folder, simply drag and drop it into the folder.
